Prayers for Workers: You Are My Hiding Place
Scripture – Psalm 32:7 (NRSV)
“You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with glad cries of deliverance.”
Focus
God is your hiding place, a place of safety and security. God will be there for you when your work is more than you can handle, when the people you work with are at their crankiest. Jesus invites you to come to him, to find rest for your soul with him.
Prayer
Sometimes, Lord, my work feels like too much. The more I get done, the more is piled upon me. I can spend all morning trying to empty my inbox, but my lunch it’s fuller than when I began. I feel overwhelmed and discouraged.
At other times, Lord, my workload isn’t the problem. It’s the people. My colleagues. My subordinates. My boss. Or even my boss’s boss. They can be so cranky and demanding. So inattentive to me and how I’m doing. I feel like I’m just a cog in the wheel as the wheel keeps rolling along, grinding me up.
In these and so many other times, dear Lord, thank you for being my hiding place. You are my refuge, my strong fortress. In you I find rest. From you I receive comfort. You are there for me, God, even when others abandon me. You will never forsake me. Thank you. Amen.
