Wil is an avid promoter of the spiritual legacy of Henri Nouwen, having done his doctoral dissertation on Nouwen more than a dozen years ago. He is the author of a trilogy on Nouwen plus a recently released one titled Mere Spirituality: The Spiritual Life According to Henri Nouwen. Aside from conducting retreats all year round focusing on the spirituality of Nouwen across the U.S, Canada, and abroad, he also regularly teaches courses on Nouwen at several universities and seminaries. He has taught spirituality courses at Fuller Seminary for 12 years, 9 of which were on Nouwen.
A lay Benedictine Oblate of Saint Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo, California, Wil devotes a significant amount of time companioning others on their journey. Aside from being a retreat facilitator, counselor, coach, mentor, and a trained spiritual director himself, he has taught spiritual direction classes in three programs over the years. Currently, Wil serves as the founder and executive director of CenterQuest – an ecumenical hub for the study and practice of Christian spirituality which hosts a hybrid (combination of online and residency) School of Spiritual Direction (SSD).
