What in the World?!?!?

Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

Revelation 19:7

Did you see Doria Ragland sitting in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in England during the Royal Wedding? I could not take my eyes off her. I kept saying to myself, “She’s thinking, ‘HOW is this happening? How did I get here? What in the world?!?!’”

Doria Ragland is the mother of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. As Wikipedia puts it, “Ragland is descended from African Americans enslaved in Georgia.” Can you even imagine what Doria’s ancestors would have thought if they’d known then what we know now? They’d probably be saying, “What in the world?!?!” too.

The image of Doria Ragland, sitting in the front seat at the Royal Wedding, watching her daughter marry Prince Harry, will stay with me for a very long time. I think we should all remember the look on her face. This is the look we should have whenever we think about how much God loves us and invites us to the ultimate Royal Wedding!

Regardless of your background, your family story, your mistakes and missteps on this journey called life, God extends a hand and says, “I love you. You are mine. I am yours. I will never leave you. Not ever.”

Something to think about:

Do you feel wonder and awe when you think about God? What is the aspect about God that amazes you the most?

Something to do:

Read this brief biography of Doria Ragland. What are the similarities between her life and yours?

Prayer:

Thank you, God. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Amen.
