God Remembers God’s Own Love
Scripture — Psalm 98:3 (NRSV)
[The LORD] has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our God.
Focus
Since the beginning, God’s promises and God’s presence included all the nations to be blessed by God. Our homes and our houses. Our heads and our hearts. Our neighborhoods and our places of work and worship. Remember that God remembers you and there is no end to God’s own love.

Correction: This devotion was written by Inés Velásquez-McBryde but is wrongfully attributed to Mark Roberts in the Advent Guide. We apologize we did not catch this error prior to releasing the guide.
The one thing I can count on on good days is God’s love. The one thing I can count on on bad days is God’s love. The one thing I can count on doubt-filled days is God’s love. The one thing I can count on when I have been betrayed is God’s love. The one thing I can count on when I am surprised by grief and loss is God’s love. The one thing I can count on when I cannot trust myself is God’s love.
Remember that God remembers God’s lovingkindness.
Remember that God remembers God’s faithfulness.
Since the beginning, God’s promises and God’s presence included all the nations to be blessed by God. Our homes and our houses. Our heads and our hearts. Our neighborhoods and our places of work and worship. God is not forgetful about his faithfulness, though God’s timing is a source of impatience for me.
Remember that God remembers you and there is no end to God’s own love.
Even and especially when we do not feel it.
May this Advent and Christmas bring rivers of love to all the places in your life where it is needed. Whether you have hit rock bottom or you see the bottom of the rock, may you experience the salvation of God’s own love. May all the ends of the earth or when you are at the end of your patience, indeed experience God’s faithfulness. Hold on a little longer; this is not the end. God promises to love you until the end.
Reflect
Where are the dry riverbeds in your heart or life that need a touch of God’s love?
Act
Check on a friend who could use your reminder that they are loved.
Pray
God of life and love and self-giving love, may you pour out your lovingkindness in a double measure. May the rivers of your ancient love run through all the veins and arteries of our bodies. May this season that can plague some of us with sadness blanket us in a covering of compassion. May you send forth your love through the loving touch or text of a friend that embodies your everlasting love. Grant us grace to be at peace with ourselves. Amén.
