Workday Prayers: Bless the Lord Through Your Work
Scripture – Psalm 103:22 (NRSV)
Bless the LORD, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the LORD, O my soul.
Focus
Psalm 103 calls upon all of God’s works in all places to bless the Lord. These works certainly include the wonders of the natural world. But that’s not all. You are one of God’s amazing works, created by God with the ability to take what God has made and make new things from it. Thus, your works are, by extension, also numbered among God’s works. Thus, through your work, you are able to bless the Lord.
Prayer
Gracious God, you are worthy of all thanks and praise. Creation itself blesses you in the pounding of the waves, the glories of a sunset, and the majesty of the mountains. Your works in nature reflect your beauty and reveal your intricate power. All praise be to you!
I am part of your creation. You have made me to join you in your work, to add to the beauty and fruitfulness of this world. When I take what you have made and work with it to make something else, what I produce adds to your works . . . and to your worship.
May you be blessed in my work today. May what I do glorify you. May how I do it give you honor. May how I treat people imitate your love. As I work today, may I give myself to you. To you be all the glory! Amen.
Ponder Throughout the Day
You can bless the Lord today through your works.
