Workday Prayers: Celebrate God’s Love and Faithfulness as You Work
Scripture — Psalm 117:1-2
Praise the Lord, all you nations!
Extol him, all you peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!
Focus
As you work today, praise the Lord because God loves you and is always faithful.
Prelude
With only two verses and thirty words, Psalm 117 is the shortest psalm. Indeed, it’s the shortest chapter in the Bible.
Psalm 117 makes its point succinctly and then it ends. The point? First, there’s a call to praise and extol the Lord. Notice that this exhortation is not just for the Jewish people, but for “all you nations” and “all you peoples.”
Second, Psalm 117 provides the reason why such praise is warranted. We should extol the Lord because God’s “steadfast love toward us” is great and because God’s “faithfulness . . . endures forever.” Therefore, we should “praise the LORD!”
As you pray based on Psalm 117, perhaps you might take a few minutes to consider your history with God. How have you experienced God’s “steadfast love” in your life? In what ways have you known God’s “faithfulness”?
Pray
Gracious God, today I praise you.
I praise you in the morning when I rise.
I praise you as I begin my workday.
I praise you with the thoughts of my heart.
I praise you with the work that I do.
I praise you as I finish my work.
I praise you at the end of the day.
Why do I praise you, Lord?
Because your steadfast love for me is great even when my love for you wavers.
Because you are always faithful even when I am not.
I praise you because your love and faithfulness are there for me always,
not just when I’m in church,
and not just when I’m focusing on you.
You are there for me each day, all day, in all that I do.
All praise be to you, loving and faithful God. Amen.
