Creating Wellness in the Third Third of Life
Description
Wellness isn’t just about not being sick. And it’s not only about physical health. Rather, wellness is flourishing in every part of life. It’s about living well mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and relationally.
Dr. Hilda Davis believes that wellness isn’t something that happens to you accidentally. Rather, with God’s help, you can create wellness in your life. When you do, according to Dr. Davis, you will live with purpose, practice a stronger faith, embrace love of self and others, and experience more joy.
These days, Dr. Davis has a special commitment to helping folks create wellness in the third third of life. She writes,
“God calls us to create at every age. Too often older adults are stuffed into outdated stereotypes that don’t reflect who we are as individuals or what God has given us the power to do. . . . God continues to call older adults to do a new thing—to burst myths about aging and to be willing to transform our own lives and our communities.
Dr. Eva Jessye – the first black woman to receive international distinction as a professional choral conductor – was one of the residents where I worked. She began teaching music at the University of Michigan in her 80’s. She taught me that our passion will lead us to opportunities to make a difference regardless of our age.”
On Wednesday, April 5, Mark Roberts from the De Pree Center will be interviewing Dr. Davis in a webinar format. If you’d like to learn more about how to create wellness in your life, please join us.
