If we hope to keep growing spiritually as we age, we will need to embrace God’s invitation to new ways of looking at ourselves and new ways of living.

The example of Mary in the Gospel of Luke reminds us that God isn’t with us only to comfort us. God is present in our lives also to empower us and to call us into the work of the kingdom.

We live in a time filled with anxiety. But Jesus urges us not to worry.

Jesus helps us see what that looks like lived out in real life in the middle of broken human communities and a fractured world.

We have within us a deep need for God, a deep thirst that only the Lord’s living water can quench.

We pray and long for Jesus’s final coming, and our final gathering around that great banquet table in the New Jerusalem, but we are also empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out Christ’s Kingdom daily.

Christian leaders do not have followers; they have people entrusted to their care.  And sometimes God rolls those people into our lives like tumbleweeds.

On this Labor Day weekend, we have an opportunity to value the work of all people, especially those whose work is deemed “essential.” By offering a simple “thank you for working,” we can acknowledge their labor and affirm the difference they are making, both in the world and our own lives. Why not say to those who serve you this weekend, “Thank you for your work”?
